Kono Suzuki Appointed TOKYO Junior Sports Ambassador

IJRU is happy to share that Kono Suzuki, a junior jump rope athlete from Japan who represented her country at the 2025 World Championship in Kawasaki, has been appointed as a TOKYO Junior Sports Ambassador by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. This program recognizes and supports outstanding young athletes competing internationally, while also raising the profile of their sports. Ambassadors serve as representatives of their sport, highlighting their achievements and inspiring the next generation of athletes.

Suzuki began jump rope in the second grade of elementary school and quickly established herself as one of Japan’s leading competitors. She has earned overall individual and freestyle titles at international events and has repeatedly broken the Japan national record in the 3-minute speed event. At the World Championship in Kawasaki, she competed in nine events.

In a recent interview, Suzuki shared her thoughts about the sport and her new role:

Q: What made you start jump rope?

A: “When I was in second grade, one of my classmates was really good at jump rope, and that inspired me to start.”

Q: What do you find most appealing about the sport?

A: “There are still so many rope-turning techniques and jumping styles I haven’t learned yet, so the sense of accomplishment when I master a new skill is what makes it so exciting.”

Q: What are your future goals?

A: “I want to keep competing in national and international jump rope and Double Dutch competitions and aim for victory. To achieve that, I’ll keep practicing hard while enjoying it.”

Q: How do you feel about being appointed as an ambassador?

A: “I’m very happy to have been chosen as an ambassador, and I will do my best to fulfill this role. Thank you for your support!”

Her appointment is both a recognition of her accomplishments and a sign of the growing visibility of jump rope as a competitive sport in Japan.
